BELOIT—A Clinton man has been arrested on a charge of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle after he allegedly struck and killed a Beloit bicyclist early Friday morning.
Brett R. Hundley, 29, is suspected of striking Mario Esquivel-Flores, 43, of Beloit as he rode his bicycle east in the 2600 block of Milwaukee Road around 1:50 a.m. Friday, Beloit police said in a news release.
According to the ongoing investigation, Esquivel-Flores didn't have any lights on his bicycle and was riding in the road when he was hit, the release said.
“There was a Beloit citizen who saw the accident occur and stopped to give CPR to the victim,” interim Police Chief David Zibolski said. “It is important for citizens to help whenever possible, and we commend this person for trying to assist."
Esquivel-Flores was transported to a local hospital, where he was later declared dead, according to the release.
