Janesville Parker and Janesville Craig will play their annual crosstown rivalry football game this Friday night. It's Week 2, and the students aren't even in school yet.
Gazette sports writer John Barry and editor Eric Schmoldt try to determine why those in charge around the Big Eight can't figure out a way to avoid such a predicament. With a round-robin schedule and six of the 10 teams in agreement on who their true rivals are, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
But, that's the way the schedule swung this year, so Bare and Schmoldt break down the matchup. Craig won 48-28 in Beloit last week, and the Cougars didn't have to open their playbook to get there. Parker lost 21-19 to Middleton, and it showed some trickery. Who has the edge heading down to Monterey Stadium on Friday night?
We'll also take a look at some of the more intriguing area high school football matchups.
And we finish the show by debating the merits of preseason football less than a week after the Green Bay Packers lost Jordy Nelson for the season.
