Girls tennis: Oconomowoc takes Milton tourney title

Oconomowoc went 38-4 in all matches en route to a 6-0 record and the team championship in the 16-team Milton Invitational girls tennis tournament.

Lake Geneva Badgers was 5-1, while Milton finished 4-2.

Janesville Craig went 3-3 on the weekend.

“We're happy with this,” Craig coach Bill Peyer said. “I think this is the best we've ever done in this 16-team tournament.”

The Cougars defeated Waterford 4-3, Big Foot 5-2 and Kenosha Indian Trails Academy 4-3. Craig lost to Oconomowoc 6-1, Lake Geneva Badger 4-3 and DeForest 5-2.

The Cougars were led by No. 1 singles player Polina Zueva who went 6-0 and lost only 10 games in her six matches.

Both No. 2 singles player Maycee Maslonka and No. 3 singles player Michi Fukushima went 4-2 in the two-day event.

Craig will host Parker in a Big Eight Conference match at Palmer Park starting at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
