JANESVILLE—The family of Dottie the dog is hosting a meet-and-greet Saturday, Aug. 22, so people can meet Dottie and her family can thank everyone who helped with her medical bills.
The event will run from 6 to 7 p.m. at the off-leash dog area in Palmer Park. Two of Dottie's owners, David and Nick Utterberg, ages 10 and 9, will accompany their dog.
Dottie was involved in a hit-and-run accident in July, and her owners couldn't afford to cover her medical expenses. Community members donated enough money to Badger Veterinary Hospital and through a GoFundMe page to get Dottie the care she needed.
On Aug. 6, Dottie underwent surgery to amputate her leg, which had sustained nerve damage in the accident.
The boys want to do the meet-and-greet to see all the people who helped Dottie, said Rose Pomplun, who helped spread the word about Dottie's plight through social media. She also drove the dog to her medical appointments.
“There are people that care about them (Dottie and the boys), and there are good people in the world. Everyone who donated deserves to meet her,” Pomplun said.
