ELKHORN—A jury on Tuesday started deliberating in the trial for a Lake Geneva couple accused of abusing their six adopted children from Russia and Guatemala.

Day two of closing arguments ended at about 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, and the jury of eight women and four men started deliberating at about noon. The court sent the jury home just before 5 p.m.

Deliberations will resume Wednesday morning.

Kathleen and Martin O'Brien were charged in May 2012 with a combined 23 felony and misdemeanor charges of abusing the children. Some charges later were dismissed.

Martin pleaded not guilty in December to six felony counts of party to physical abuse of a child.

Kathleen pleaded not guilty in December to four felony counts of party to physical abuse of a child and misdemeanor party to disorderly conduct.

The jury heard 10 days of testimony after the trial started July 10.

The O'Briens will be back in court at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday at the Walworth County Judicial Center.
