John "Jack" Gregory, Edgerton, WI/Delavan, WI (1935-2013)

John "Jack" Gregory, 78, of Edgerton, peacefully passed away at home on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, with his family by his side. Jack was born on Feb. 12, 1935, to the late John and Marion Gregory. He graduated from Delavan High School in 1953. He went on to play football and baseball at Milton College, where he graduated in 1958. While playing at Milton College, he was the recipient of the Sayre Athletic Award. Jack began an impressive teaching and coaching career at Blanchardville, WI, in the fall of 1958. From there, he went on to teach and coach at Iowa-Grant, Walworth Big Foot, and Edgerton High Schools. While at Edgerton High School, Jack taught Individualized Social Studies and was the Head Football Coach for 20 years and Assistant Baseball Coach under Ron Greene and his son, Mike. Following his retirement in 1996, Jack continued his passion for coaching football at Beloit College and continued assisting his son, Mike, in both football and baseball. During Jack's 50 years of coaching he accomplished 207 wins and was named to the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1997. In addition Jack was also named to the Milton College Athletic Hall of Fame and the Edgerton Area Athletic Hall of Fame.
Jack is survived by his wife, Joyce (Larsen), who he was happily married to for 56 years; three sons: Mike (Vicki), Scott (Kristin), and Mark (Julie); seven grandchildren: Karie, Bryan, Jameson, Easton, Adam, Collin and Lucas; and his dogs, Riley and Claire. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Matthew, and his parents.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, from 4 until 8 p.m. at ALBRECHT FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, EDGERTON. A celebration of Jack's life will be held at 11 am. on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, at CENTRAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, Edgerton. The family will also receive friends an hour prior to the service on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in Jack's honor.
