Freiburg Gastropub opened earlier this summer on Monroe Street, further contributing to the popular dining scene on the city's near-west side. The new restaurant/bar combo puts a third German dining spot on the map here, with Essen Haus and Come Back In having already been established for decades east of the Capitol Square.

Janesville's Jake Sailing is introducing Tasteful Janesville, a reincarnation of the former Taste of Janesville, on Saturday, Aug. 22 at Riverside Park in Janesville.

Singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffet returns to Alpine Valley on Saturday, Aug. 22, with his legion of Parrothead fans in tow, much like the Phish fans who filled the 37,000-seat outdoor theater two weeks ago.

For the second year, Lake Lawn Resort is celebrating summer with Shake the Lake, a three-day mini music festival. Festivalgoers can take advantage of drinks and food specials, including a Friday fish fry, a Saturday rib fest and pulled pork sandwiches Sunday.

Whatever Kat Reinhert does with her life for the foreseeable future, you can bet it will involve music. The Milton native is on the cusp of releasing her third and fourth jazz albums, which will be paired when they release Friday, Aug. 21.

Casual Joe's, an authentic barbecue joint, opened in May in the old Fort Auto Body building. Chef Tyler Sailsbery went on a trek around the Midwest and the South to learn about barbecue and its different regional flavors. The meats are smoked on site, and the sauces are homemade. It's a great concept, but the execution isn't quite there yet.

Food and beer vendors, six local bars and 15 bands will come together Sunday, Aug. 16, for the second annual Rhythm on the Rock—a festival meant to bring people to, and to show off, downtown Janesville.

In past years, the service club charged attendees ages 15 and older $1 in advance or $2 at the gate to partake in the free sweet corn that is central to the group's largest fundraiser. This year's free event will be Saturday, Aug. 15, at Janesville's Traxler Park.
