Video: The bird effigy mounds of ancient Rock River Indians
July 26, 2013
I'm reading about area Indian mounds in Hugh Highsmith book--The Mounds of Koshkonong and Rock River. The Fort Atkinson writer says, "About 20,000 Indian mounds are believed to have once existed along the rivers, streams and lakes in the state of Wisconsin. The distribution of mounds overlap a few miles into northern Illinois and across the Mississippi River into Iowa and Minnesota, but relatively closely grouped mounds representing animal and birds are unique to Wisconsin".
