Exhibit features abstract surfaces
JANESVILLE—An artist reception for Karolyn Alexander of Whitewater will be held on Friday, Sept. 8, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Raven's Wish Gallery, 101 W. Milwaukee St., Janesville.
Alexander will host a solo abstract surfaces exhibit, which will hang through Sept. 27 at Raven's Wish. The gallery is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
Using acrylic paint and a variety of tools including pencils, paint pens, water-soluble crayons, credit cards, palette knives, kitchen utensils, sticks and skewers, fingers and brushes of every shape and size, Alexander's work begins intuitively by making marks or laying down patterns of paint that are then altered or painted over to some degree.
“I always paint with music playing in my studio and a favorite strategy is to use my non-dominate hand to create marks and brushstrokes,” Alexander said.
Raven's Wish Gallery represents more than 100 local and national painters, jewelers, photographers, and wood, glass, textile, and mixed media artists. The gallery hosts artist exhibitions, unique events, and classes year-round.
