Volunteers needed at S.M.I.L.E.S.
Special Methods In Learning Equine Skills, a therapeutic riding facility located in Darien, is looking for volunteers to assist with their therapeutic riding program.
S.M.I.L.E.S. offers equine-assisted programming to individuals of all ages with special needs. The organization serves approximately 100 clients each week, and each of those clients requires one to three volunteers. S.M.I.L.E.S. relies on the work and dedication of many volunteers in order to make this type of programming a possibility within our community.
The spring session of therapeutic riding begins April 3, but the recruiting and training of volunteers starts now.
Opportunities for involvement include working with the therapy horses and providing client support, providing facility and barn support, participating in fundraising, special event committees and administrative support.
No special experience is necessary and both an orientation and training will be provided. Volunteers should have compassion, willingness, and a positive attitude.
The minimum age for volunteering at S.M.I.L.E.S. is 15 years old.
S.M.I.L.E.S. transcends traditional therapeutic methods by offering individuals with special needs participation in an equine-assisted program which provides social, emotional, physical and personal rewards to improve lives and living skills.
