WHITEWATER—UW-Whitewater named an interim athletic director after demoting Amy Edmonds from the position last week, the university announced Friday.

Randy Marnocha will begin serving as interim director starting Monday, according to the announcement. Edmonds will become an associate athletic director.

Marnocha spent 27 years at UW-W, including from 2006 to 2010, when he was vice chancellor for administrative affairs, according to the announcement. Since 2010, he has been serving as the UW-Madison Athletic Department associate director for business operations.

"Randy has experience at one of the nation's premier athletic departments," Chancellor Beverly Kopper said in the announcement. "I am pleased that he will bring his skill-base and knowledge to Warhawk athletics."

The search for a permanent director will begin in the spring, according to the announcement.

UW-Whitewater officials have not said why Edmonds was demoted. UW-W spokeswoman Sara Kuhl said earlier that Edmonds' demotion had nothing to do with a lawsuit filed by former wrestling coach Tim Fader against her and former Chancellor Richard Telfer. The lawsuit alleges Edmonds and Telfer did not renew Fader's contract as retaliation for reporting a sexual assault to police before reporting it to the university.
