Lightning hits, destroys Darien garage

DARIEN—A lightning strike destroyed a detached garage in the village of Darien early Sunday morning, according to a news release from the Darien Fire Department.

The 20-by-20-foot building and its contents were valued at $230,000.

Two firefighters were transported to a medical facility, where they were treated and released, according to the news release, which did not detail their injuries.

Darien and Sharon firefighters were dispatched to 325 W. Bella Vista Drive, Darien, at 2:35 a.m. They found the building fully engulfed by flames, and they had the fire under control by 2:45, the release states.

A photo sent with the release shows two vehicles inside the destroyed structure.

Firefighters contained the fire to the building of origin, according to the release.
