Ryan turns cold shoulder to Nehlen campaign
JANESVILLE— As the Aug. 9 primary draws closer, Republican challenger Paul Nehlen continues to go after Congressman Paul Ryan, while Ryan focuses on his accomplishments.
Ryan, a nine-term Congressman and current speaker of the House of Representatives, is from Janesville. He is being challenged for Wisconsin's 1st Congressional District seat in the primary by businessman Nehlen of Delavan Township.
A week ago, Nehlen and four mothers gathered outside of Ryan's Janesville home to tell their stories and plea for help in securing the U.S. borders. The mothers all lost children at the hands of illegal immigrants, according to a Nehlen campaign news release.
The mothers shared their stories of loss, many times with tears welling as they struggled to discuss what happened and hoped Ryan would listen to what they had to say.
According to Nehlen's campaign, Ryan stepped into an SUV and left without talking to the group.
Meanwhile, Ryan's campaign rolled out a new television ad titled “Integrity,” which features Richard Clarke, a retiree from Janesville, explaining why he supports Ryan. Clarke believes Ryan is a man of principle who always thinks through the tough policy issues of the day in order to do the best he can to help Wisconsinites, according to Ryan's
campaign.
