Achen winners catch moments of beauty

WHITEWATER--A snow-covered prairie and a delicate flower were among the winning subjects in the 7th annual Fran Achen Photography Competition, sponsored by the Whitewater Arts Alliance.

Currently, 149 entries--the work of 46 photographers from around southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois--are on display at the Cultural Arts Center, 402 W. Main St., in Whitewater. The show runs noon to 5 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays through July 31 and is free.  

The 2016 winners:

In the accomplished division, Jeff McDonald, first place;  Mary Ellsworth, second place; place and Alan Smith, third place. Honorable mentions are Ryan Ebert, Shelley Fox, Everett Long and Terry Mayer.

In the amateur division, Patricia Ehlers Ogren, first place; Robert Buell, second place and David Yochum, third place.Honorable mentions are Dolores Engel, David Flemming, Debra Hall and Judy Wildermuth.

In the youth/teen division, Aydon Clikeman, first and second place, and Hogan Alexander, third place.Honorable mentions are Cambell Alexander and Julie Long.

A  viewer's choice award will be announced on the last day of the show after all the votes are counted.
