Update: Lake Geneva police find missing woman and family
LAKE GENEVA --Update: A Lake Geneva woman and her three children have been found safe in Georgia, according to a post from the Lake Geneva Police's Facebook page.
The post reads, "We can confirm at this time that Michalene Melges and her three sons have been located and are safe in Georgia. We will offer further updates at the appropriate time. We would like to thank the media and citizens for their concern and assistance in this matter."
Police had asked the public for information regarding the whereabouts of Melges, 40, and her three sons.
She and her children, Hans Melges, 14, Kristian “Max” Melges, 12, and Maverik “Buddy” Melges, 10, had been observed leaving their residence in the 900 block of South Lakeshore Drive on Tuesday, May 10, 2016.
Melges rented a van in Lake Bluff, Illinois, on May 9 and the van was returned to a rental company in Plano, Texas on May 13.
Melges, is well known in the Lake Geneva area as a real estate agent and is related to the Melges sailing family of Zenda.
She called in to school to excuse her sons for a vacation May 10-13 and has not been heard from since, said Lt. Ed Gritzner of Lake Geneva police.
She is divorced and in violation of child custody rules, as the boys have missed three visitations with their father, Gritzner said.
Police have no evidence Melges is trying to keep her sons from her ex-husband, so police at this point just want to check on her welfare, Gritzner said.
