The Good Earth Church of the Divine in East Troy will honor area farmers with a special Earth Day 10 a.m. service Sunday, April 17 at the fifth-generation Wisconsin farm of Loren Johnson, W6256 Sugar Creek Road, Elkhorn.

The service will include the blessing of seeds, soil, wind, weather and a hand-built, earth-friendly wind turbine that “has already withstood 55-mph winds,” according to Good Earth's pastor, Simone Nathan.

Participants are encouraged to dress for the weather, bring their favorite seeds to decorate the altar and bring food to share at a potluck lunch after the service.
Call 262-684-5193 for more information.

Nathan said the service points to a disturbing agricultural trend, according to the American Farmland Trust, that America loses nearly an acre of farm and ranchland to development every minute.

“It is true to say 'no farms, no food,'” Nathan said. “We honor Loren Johnson and the generations behind him. Where are the generations to come?”
