Elkhorn woman charged with eighth OWI

ELKHORN—Tamara Schmidt of Elkhorn is charged with eighth-offense operating while under the influence of a controlled substance.

Schmidt, 54, of 821 Gorman St. No. 5, was charged March 1 after an Elkhorn police officer arrested her Oct. 1. The officer noticed Schmidt, was “passed out” in a parking lot along North Wisconsin Street, according to the criminal complaint.

Schmidt admitted taking her prescription medication before driving, and lab results indicate Schmidt had “several controlled substances” in her system, according to the complaint.

Schmidt is free on a signature bond. She will appear in court next at 3 p.m. Friday, April 22, at the Walworth County Judicial Center.
