WHITEWATER—A sex offender will be released to live in Whitewater on Tuesday, Feb. 16, but police aren't saying where.

Chief Lisa Otterbacher identified the offender as Craig A. Voegeli.

The Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry says Voegeli is 31 and was convicted in 2007 in Walworth County of third-degree sexual assault.

The police department is not releasing the address of where Voegeli will be living. The department is trying to strike a “delicate balance” between notifying the public and causing distress in the community, Otterbacher said.

The police department went door-to-door in the neighborhood where Voegeli will be living and spoke to the heads of the households, Otterbacher said.

Otterbacher directed people to the sex offender registry online for update information on Voegeli or any sex offender.

The registry website is doc.wi.gov/community-resources/wi-sex-offender-registry.

The chief said she is happy to answer questions from community members.
