Malmanger leads Craig gymnasts
Sara Malmanger won balance beam but it was not enough to lift Janesville Craig's gymnastics team to victory Thursday night.
Sun Prairie's depth was the difference in the Cardinals' 135-875-128.325 Big Eight win over the Cougars.
Malmanger won balance beam with a score of 8.8 but was the only Cougar to finish in the top three in any event.
“Our girls had a real nice meet,” Craig coach Jean Welch said. “Sun Prairie is tough this year, but our girls competed very well. We had a couple JV girls filling in tonight, and they did a great job.
“We were led tonight by seniors Mckenna Struebin, who had a super vault, and Sara Malmanger with a very solid beam set and a beautiful floor routine. This is the time of year when new skills and difficulty are added, and we will start to see that pay off down the road.”
Craig competes in Spartan Invitational at Madison Memorial on Saturday.
