TOWN OF GENEVA—Two town of Geneva police officers are on administrative leave after they shot and killed a man authorities say charged at officers with a knife after he'd broken into a neighbor's house Friday evening.

Town of Geneva police in a release said officers shot and killed Eric E. Olsen, 26, 3836 W. Lincoln Drive, town of Geneva, after police had responded to a call that Olsen had used an ax to smash through the window at a neighbor's house at 3946 W. Lincoln Drive, and then broke in the house.

The call came in about 5:10 p.m. Friday in the neighborhood on the north side of Lake Como.

The two officers said when they approached Olsen he came at them wielding a large knife. Both officers then shot Olsen, according to release.

Police have not released any other details, but the town of Geneva Police Department says the two officers have been placed on standard administrative leave pending an investigation of the shooting death.

The Walworth County Sheriff's Office and the state Division of Criminal Investigation are investigating.

It's not clear if Olsen was inside or outside the neighbors' home when police shot him. Police also have not indicated why Olsen broken into the neighbors' home or whether the situation involved a standoff with Olson.

Family members identified Olsen, the police department reported.
