Traffic delays expected in Janesville during officer's funeral

JANESVILLE—A portion of North Randall Avenue will be closed to traffic Tuesday for the funeral service of McFarland police officer Ryan Copeland, according to a news release from the Janesville Police Department.

Copeland died Monday in a traffic accident north of Edgerton.

The funeral for Copeland will be held at 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, 612 N. Randall Ave., Janesville, and a visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of services at the church.

An additional visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at Whitcomb-Lynch Funeral Home, Janesville.

To accommodate funeral traffic, North Randall Avenue from East Milwaukee Street to East Memorial Drive will be closed from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday or until the end of the procession to Mt. Olivet Cemetery, the news release said.

Anyone attending the funeral should use either the intersection of Milwaukee Street and Randall Avenue or the intersection of Memorial Drive and Randall Avenue. Both intersections will be staffed, and people will directed where to park.

The public is welcome to watch the the funeral procession. It will travel from First Lutheran Church to Mt. Olivet by way of East Memorial Drive west to North Washington Street. From there, the procession will go north on North Washington Street to Mt. Olivet, the news release said.

During the ceremony at Mt. Olivet, North Washington Street/County E will be closed to through traffic.

Long traffic delays are expected near the church and along the funeral route. People are encouraged to avoid the areas and find alternate travel routes.

The Copeland family has asked the funeral ceremony not be recorded, the news release said.
