Frank D. Wietersen, Edgerton, WI (1933-2015)

Frank D Wietersen, 82, of Edgerton, passed away Monday, Nov. 23, 2015, with his loving family by his side after fighting a courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease. He was born on March 23, 1933, in South Bend, IN, son of the late Rueben and Ruth (Travis)Wietersen. Frank graduated from Edgerton High School in 1951, then attended UW-Whitewater. He proudly served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War, as a paratrooper with the 11th Airborne Division. On Oct. 20, 1956, he married Darlene O'Connor at St Johns Lutheran Church in Edgerton. He worked for 20 years at the Rock County Sheriff's Department, and worked his way up to Chief Deputy. His career included Detective, Rock County’s first rescue scuba diver and polygraph examiner. He graduated from the National FBI Academy, and finished his career in law enforcement working 14 years with the WI Department of Justice. Frank was involved in the community. He served as past President of Edgerton Lions Club and founding member of Lions Cycle Unit, life member of Edgerton Conservation Club, member of Edgerton Masonic Lodge and the American Legion Post #30. Frank faithfully followed the Packers and Badgers. He enjoyed following his children's and grandchildren's sporting events. Along with receiving his private pilot license, his passions included traveling with his wife throughout the US and Canada, Alaska being their most adventurousist. Frank was an avid deer and bear hunter and a founding member of the Mahogany Marsh Camp.

Frank is survived by his loving wife of 59 years; three children: Vicki (Mike) Gregory, Lori (John) Richardson, Rick (Becky) Wietersen, all of Edgerton; grandchildren: Karie (Andrew) Nordland, Bryan (Kelsey Pekarske) Gregory, Walker (Carol Buelow) Richardson, Hailey Richardson, Lauren Wietersen and Reed Wietersen; a brother, Fred (Janet) Wietersen of Arizona; a sister-in-law, Connie Messmer; a brother-in-law, Richard O'Connor; along with many nieces and nephews. Frank was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, June Burns; and his grandson, Matthew Gregory.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 28th at 11 a.m. at CENTRAL LUTHERAN CHURCH in Edgerton, WI. Burial will follow at Fassett Cemetery with Military Rites. Visitation services will be held prior to the funeral from 9:30 until 11 a.m. at the CHURCH. To honor Frank's love of hunting, the wearing of camo or hunting apparel to the funeral or visitation would be appropriate. ALBRECHT FUNERAL HOMES & CREMATION SERVICES, Edgerton, are assisting the family with arrangements.
