Mukwonago man charged with OWI, injuring passenger
ELKHORN—A Mukwonago man is charged with drunken driving in Walworth County Court after driving a car into a field, injuring the passenger and then hiding from police, according to the criminal complaint.
Steven M. Wrecke, 26, of Mukwonago is charged with felonies operating while intoxicated causing injury and operating with a prohibited alcohol concentration causing injury.
Wrecke was bar-hopping Sept. 20 and left Lindey's Bar in the town of East Troy at about 2 a.m. Sept. 21 with a 29-year-old passenger, the complaint states.
A preliminary investigation by East Troy police shows Wrecke ran a stop sign at the intersection of Bell School and Stone School roads, drove through a fence and came to a stop about 100 yards into a field, according to the complaint.
The woman hurt her back and needed surgery.
Wrecke was found at about 5:21 a.m. hiding in bushes. He was transported to Lakeland Medical Center, where preliminary blood tests showed he had a 0.135 blood-alcohol level, the complaint states.
Wrecke is not in custody. He is scheduled to appear in court next at 8:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 15, at the Walworth County Judicial Center.
