November 5, 2015
A missing elderly man from Delavan has been found safe in Illinois, according to a state missing-persons alert sent Thursday morning.
Albert Van Der Veen, 95, left his residence in Delavan at about 5 a.m. Wednesday in his Jeep Cherokee, an initial alert stated.
He was found with his vehicle in Joliet, Illinois, at about 8:20 a.m. Thursday.
The 95-year-old purchased gas Wednesday morning in Evansville before heading north toward Dane County, according to Delavan police.
Van Der Veen suffers from undiagnosed dementia and is diabetic. Authorities attribute his turn south to the dementia.
