ELKHORN—The Walworth County highway employee hit and injured on Interstate 43 on Wednesday was treated and released at a local hospital, police said.

Gregory Koehn, 55, of Genoa City was hit while removing construction signs, Elkhorn Police Chief Joel Christensen said. Koehn was taken to Lakeland Hospital, Elkhorn.

Koehn was responsive and alert upon transport. Christensen did not know when Koehn was released or the extent of injuries but said they were not life threatening.

Authorities were dispatched at 1:14 p.m. Wednesday to a two-vehicle crash on I-43 near the Centralia Street overpass.

A highway department truck had pulled onto the shoulder, and workers exited to remove signs.

A vehicle driven by a Sandra Krahn, 67, of Elkhorn braked and swerved to avoid hitting a vehicle that had slowed. Krahn didn't see the highway vehicle, Christensen said.

The investigation is ongoing and no citations have been issued. The Wisconsin State Patrol is assisting with the investigation.
