Alfred Hartman, Jr., 88, of Janesville, a former Chicago area resident, passed away Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015 at his home with his family around him. He was born March 19, 1927, in Chicago, IL, the only child of the late Alfred and Emma (Ruks) Hartman, Sr. He attended school and graduated high school in Chicago, and then received his Associate's Degree in Engineering. Al worked for many years as a Hydraulics Engineer for International Harvester, traveling around the country setting up their systems. He then worked for Laystrom Manufacturing, from which he retired at age 73. Al was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving his country during the later stages of World War II, on board the U.S.S. Monrovia, "The Mighty M", in the South Pacific Theatre of Operations. After his discharge from the Navy, Al married the former Hattie Roach on Dec. 14, 1946; she preceded him in death on April 7, 1999. Al was a cartoon buff, and most enjoyed watching his favorite shows, Elvira of the Dark, and Son of Svengooli. He very much loved polka and hillbilly rock music. Al was a car buff, and could always be found working in his garage and yard on his classic cars. Most of all, Al loved his family, spending holidays with his family around, and also devoted himself to "doting on his Princesses"!

Al is survived by his daughter, Nancy (Cliff) DeLisle of Friendship, WI; and his numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren. Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Brian Willoughby.

Funeral services will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2015, at the WHITCOMB-LYNCH FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, with Rev. James Melvin officiating. Burial with full military rites will take place at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, in Elm Lawn Memorial park, Elmhurst, IL. Friends may call on Tuesday from 5 until 7 p.m. at the FUNERAL HOME.
