JANESVILLE—A Delavan man was arrested on what police say is his fifth operating while intoxicated charge after fleeing his car and later returning to it.

Janesville police said Brett R. Wiedmer of 2602 Bord Road, Delavan, was stopped at 2:15 a.m. Sunday in the 1600 block of E. Racine St. After the officer identified Wiedmer, he fled on foot and could not be located, according to a news release from the Janesville Police Department.

At 4 a.m., police conducted surveillance of Wiedmer's vehicle to see if he would return. At 4:05 a.m., officers saw the vehicle leave and stopped it. Wiedmer, 41, was recognized as the person who had fled earlier and was taken into custody, according to the news release.

Further investigation revealed Wiedmer had been drinking and had four prior operating while intoxicated convictions. He was arrested and is being held at the Rock County Jail, the release states.
