Milton waits until late to pull away from Monroe
Milton closed out its Badger South football game against Monroe Friday night in style.
After holding a slim lead the entire game, the Red Hawks scored twice in the fourth quarter—including once on the final play—on the way to a 20-6 home victory over Monroe.
Isaac Phillips connected with tight end Patrick O'Leary for a 33-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter, and that 7-0 lead held up into the third.
There, Monroe got back within a point on Tyler Elmer's 3-yard run.
Milton finished with just 173 yards of total offense but found a way to move to 2-0 in league play. Billy Pitzner scored from three yards out, and Dylan Swerig's kick made it 14-6.
Monroe had one last-ditch effort, but Andrew Hermanson picked off a pass and returned it 30 yards for a touchdown as time expired.
Milton plays at rival Fort Atkinson next Friday.
