Your Views: Campaign season should be shorter
PrintI am writing to complain about present day presidential campaigns. They have gotten too long. In particular, this one!
The political conventions are next summer, almost a year away, and the election itself is in 14 months. Yet candidates have been jockeying for position for six months already.
Think of all the money that is being spent! Certainly thousands, probably millions, when all the issues could be covered and recovered in six months. Those monies could be better spent elsewhere!
And the candidates would be less compelled to make outrageous statements trying to grab headlines and not be repetitive.
Furthermore, all the emphasis on how much money each candidate can raise or is raising gives rise to the idea the election is being bought.
