Red Hawks erase early deficit to win
Milton's football team needed one quarter to wake up Friday night.
The Red Hawks quickly fell behind by two touchdowns before responding with 24 straight points. They went on the road to beat Madison Edgewood 24-14 in the Badger South Conference opener for both teams.
“I'm not sure what was going on the first 10 minutes, but we sure picked it up,” Milton coach Bill O'Leary said.
Nick Cadd bounced back from an early fumble by scoring on a 20-yard pass from Isaac Phillips to get the Red Hawks on the board.
They really shifted momentum later in the second quarter when Phil Smecko blocked a punt and Jake Armstrong recovered in the end zone to help tie the game.
“The emotions turned right there,” O'Leary said.
Scott Mansur's 65-yard run led to Billy Pitzner's 4-yard touchdown run that put the game away in the fourth quarter. Mansur and Pitzner each eclipsed 90 yards rushing.
Milton (2-1 overall) hosts Monroe next week.
