Comets score 38 unanswered to beat Elks

Delavan-Darien's offense came alive in a big way in the second half Friday night.

After getting shut out in the first half, the Comets scored 38 straight points on the way to a 38-15 victory over host Elkhorn in a Southern Lakes Conference opener.

Elkhorn's Konnor Mohr scored twice to give the Elks a 15-0 lead in the third quarter, but the Comets turned up the heat from there.

They scored 22 points in the third quarter, all of them from junior quarterback Jake Benzing. He ran for two scores and threw another to Seth Kirsch, and the Comets took the lead.

They added a field goal and two more touchdowns—both by running back Fabian Shipman—in the fourth.

• Badger 28, Burlington 27—Tyler VanDeVelde rushing for 175 of the Badgers' 345 yards on the ground as they came from behind to earn the home victory to open SLC play.

Badger trailed 27-21 entering the final quarter.

Quarterback Isaac Ziervogel threw for one touchdown and ran in the game-tying scored from 18 yards out with 5:52 remaining. The extra point gave the Badgers the victory.

Burlington quarterback Cal Tully threw for three touchdowns.

• Union Grove 43, Westosha 33—The Broncos remained undefeated with the home victory.
