James A. Haakinson, Beloit, WI (1944-2015)

James A. Haakinson, 71, of rural Beloit, died at his home on Monday, Aug. 31, 2015, surrounded by his family. He was born in Beloit, on March 27, 1944, the son of Norm and Helen (Rechstein) Haakinson. Jim graduated from Beloit Memorial High School in 1962. He served in the U. S. Navy aboard the USS Carpenter DD 825 from 1964 to 1968. Jim was employed by Wisconsin Power and Light Company for 30 years and founded and owned Stumps Hot Olives. After selling the business, he worked part-time for Budget Truck & Auto Body until his health failed.

Jim is survived by his wife, Roberta M. (Skelly) Haakinson whom he married in October, 1967; one son, Todd, wife, Darcie, and their two daughters, Brenna and Kylie; one daughter, Sarah Iverson, husband, Tadd, and their four children: Cody, Sam, Laney and Cooper; and his brother, Gerald Haakinson.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2015, at FAITH COMMUNITY CHURCH, 2931 Lucerne Drive, Janesville. Pastor Jeff Williams will officiate. Military rites will follow the service at the CHURCH. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8th, at HENKE-CLARSON FUNERAL HOME, Janesville, and at FAITH COMMUNITY CHURCH on Wednesday from 10 until 11 a.m. Per Jim’s request, please omit flowers. In lieu of flowers, please bring hats, mittens and socks to help keep the children of Rock County warm this winter. A memorial fund in Jim’s name is also being set up at Blackhawk Community Credit Union, 2704 East Milwaukee Street, % P. O. Box 5366, Janesville, WI 53547.
