Evansville/Albany had just enough to hold off Brodhead/Juda in the long-running rivalry series Friday night.

The Blue Devils went to 2-0 on the season with a 14-12 nonconference victory at Brodhead (0-2). The game did not count toward the Rock Valley Conference standings.

Brennen Banks scored both Evansville/Albany touchdowns, the final one—which proved to be the difference—with just 2:07 left.

Banks caught a 30-yard touchdown pass from Zach Mielke, and Mielke converted the two-point conversion run to put the Blue Devils up 8-0 in the second quarter.

The score remained that way until Ned Slocum scored on a 3-yard run in the first minute of the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to 8-6. A run for two points failed.

Banks scored his second touchdown on a 24-yard run, but a two-point conversion attempt failed.

The Cardinals then rolled down the field. A 56-yard run by Jack Speckman put the ball on the Evansville/Albany 6-yard line. A holding penalty moved the ball back to the 17. Matt Schmitt then hit Slocum with a 17-yard scoring pass with 49 seconds left.

The potential game-tying two-point conversion pass failed, and Evansville/Albany recovered the onside kick.

Banks finished with 15 carries for 133 yards. Ryker Brown added 115 yards on 18 carries.

Speckman finished with 102 yards on 10 carries to lead Brodhead/Juda. Slocum caught three passes for 37 yards.
