Snappers finish sweep of Bees
Max Kuhn and Jose Brizuela each drove in three runs, and Heath Fillmyer pitched five scoreless innings for his second win of the season as the Beloit Snappers shut out the Burlington Bees 6-0 to complete a weekend sweep.
Justin Higley scored the first of his three runs in the first inning after he doubled ahead of Brizuela's first run-producing hit.
Tim Proudfoot, Higley, Kuhn and Brizuela tacked on four more in the third. Proudfoot led off the inning with a single, then Higley walked two batters later. That's when Kuhn doubled to left to bring both men home. Brizuela stepped up next and hit his ninth home run of the season out to right field.
Fillmyer, who has taken his lumps in his first full professional season with a 1-13 record entering Sunday's game, allowed just three hits and struck out seven Bees. Michael Fagan and Lee Sosa each pitched two innings and combined for four more strikeouts in relief.
Beloit's home stand continues at 7 p.m. today when it hosts the Kane County Cougars.
