Gladys Ainger, Harvard, IL (1921-2015)

Gladys Ainger, 94, of Harvard, passed away Aug. 6, 2015, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born Jan. 9, 1921, in Ringwood, IL, to George and Ruby (Claxton) Shepard. On June 18, 1940, she married Alan Ainger at her parent’s home. He preceded her in death on Jan. 3, 1987. Gladys was very active in the Alden United Methodist Church along with the United Methodist Women where she was the gravy maker for the fall dinners for years. She was an active member of the McHenry County homemakers, and a 25 year election judge of Alden Township. She also belonged to the Women of the Moose. She prided herself in her flowers and grandchildren. She loved going to see her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren show their projects at the fairs and going to school events. She was an avid Cubs and Bulls fan, able to tell you all the player’s names.
Gladys was the mother to George and David (Carol) of Harvard, and Nancy (David Lott) Weigle of Morton, IL. She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren: Caryl (Tim Treiber), Barbara (Dwight) Schuessler, Craig (Trina) Weigle, Diane Zagorski, Sharon (Jon) Flick, Dennis (Kathryn) Ainger, Linda (Tom) Amann, Karen Kynell, Kevin (Angie) Kynell, Kristen (Wesley) Jasinski, Alan (Katie) Ainger, Alex Ainger; and 23 great-grandchildren: Allison and Matt Lazarus, Pete, Joe, Grace and Sam Schuessler, Collin andKendall Weigle, Sophie Zagorski, Tori Tiso, Josh Amann, Elizabeth, Andrew, Grace, Leo Ainger, Holly, Brody and Clay Kynell, Maya and Michael Jasinski, Kyle, Jake and Ava Ainger; two nephews, Ken (Mary) Ainger and Steve (Julie) Ainger. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alan; daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Mike Kynell; brother, Howard Shepard; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Elbert and Duane Ainger.
Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9, 2015, at SAUNDERS & MCFARLIN FUNERAL HOME, 107 W. Sumner Street, Harvard, IL 60033 and from 10 until 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 10, 2015, at the ALDEN UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 16532 Rt. 173 Alden, IL 60033. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Eric Blachford and Chaplain Randy Wakitsch officiating. Interment will be in Linn-Hebron Cemetery.
