WHITEWATER—The Whitewater City Council is seeking applicants to fill the vacant District 1 seat.

The council received a July 29 email from Councilman Craig Stauffer, who said he is no longer able to serve on the council because he is moving to Iowa for a job, said City Clerk Michele Smith.

The council could appoint someone to fill the seat at a Tuesday, Sept. 15, meeting. The position is up for election in April.

Applicants must be 18 years old and District 1 residents. Each is required to fill out an application and write a letter of interest stating why he or she would be a good council member and what his or her goals are on the council. Applications should be addressed to the city clerk and can be mailed to P.O. Box 178, Whitewater, WI 53190.

The application deadline is 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4. The council may interview qualified applicants at the Sept. 15 meeting before possibly choosing a new council member. The application can be found online at whitewater-wi.gov.
