William A. Jurs, Janesville, WI (1923-2015)

William A. Jurs, age 91, of Janesville, passed away early Sunday, July 26, 2015, at his home. He was born Aug. 21, 1923, in Barrington, IL, the son of the late Albert H. and Clara A. (Redieske) Jurs. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having honorably served his country during World War II in the European Theatre of Operations. Bill was a graduate of Chicago Technical College, receiving his Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering. He was married to the former Ethel Schultz in Des Plaines, IL, on May 31, 1947. She preceded him in death on Oct. 17, 1981. He later married Ruth (Heppner) Welzen in Lake Zurich, IL, on May 7, 1988. She preceded him in death on Nov. 6, 1999. He then married Vergean E. (Buskirk) Knapp on April 21, 2001, in Ft. Atkinson, WI. He was employed as an Electrical Engineer for Benjamin Electrical Manufacturing Co. He later worked as an Engineer and as the Purchasing Agent for Lighting Products, Inc. until his retirement. Bill was a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He loved fishing, and was a very avid golfer. In later years he very much enjoyed Wood Crafting in his workshop. He will be remembered and missed as a very loving and devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Janesville.
Bill is survived by his wife, Vergean; his two children, Ellen (Al) Butkus of Evanston, IL, and Jeff (Sandie) Jurs of Bartlett, IL; his step-children: Jean (Steve) Behl, John W. Knapp, Robert, Ronald, and Al Welzen; a step daughter-in-law, Pam Teal; his grandchildren: Matt (Lisa) Butkus, Abby Butkus, Gwen Butkus, Bre Jurs, Terry Knapp, Tyler Knapp, Teresa Behl and Chrissy Behl; his two great-grandsons, Charlie and Owen Butkus; and by many nieces, nephews, and friends. Besides his wives and parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Albert Jurs; and his four sisters: Lydia Hinrichs, Alice Witt, Gladys Albrecht, and Roselyn Jurs.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at MT. CALVARY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2940 Mineral Point Ave., with Rev. Dr. Cory Rajek officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 until 11 a.m. at the CHURCH. Burial will take place at 3 p.m. on Wednesday at Highland Memorial Park, Libertyville, IL. Military Rites will be accorded by the V.F.W. Kienow-Hilt Post 1621.
