September 18, 1938 - July 23, 2015
Ronald Kenneth Carroll, age 76, of DeForest, passed away on July 23, 2015, at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg, as a result of mesothelioma caused by exposure to asbestos. Ron was born in Beloit, on Sept. 18, 1938, to Kenneth and Beatrice (Hanson) Carroll. Growing up on the farm and enjoying family and farm life plus 4-H were the highlights of his younger years. He graduated from Orfordville High School in 1956. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy completing basic training at Great Lakes, IL. Once completed, he finished his Naval Career aboard the U.S.S. Canberra. On Sept. 9, 1961, he was married to Patricia Wold at St. Jude Catholic Parish in Beloit, by Father Richard Lenarz. The children from this union are Dawn Marie Anderson and Brian Kenneth (Stacey) Carroll, and grandchildren, Kristen and Cody Anderson, all from the Madison area. Ron worked for WP&L, and later Alliant Energy, for a total of 35 years. After retirement in 1994 he enjoyed, as he called them, fun jobs at Sun Prairie Sand & Gravel and American Girl in DeForest.
Ron is survived by his wife, children and grandchildren; and also his brothers: David (Sandy) Carroll, James (Alice) Carroll, and Michael (Marilyn) Carroll, all from the Beloit area; and brothers-in-law, Victor Stavn of Orfordville and Arnold Wold of Cloquet, MN. Further survivors of Ron are nieces and nephews: Russell Stavn, Kathy (Rodney) Moen, Kimberly (Nathan) Apfelbeck, Jill (Paul) Purdy, Jason Carroll, Julie (Chris) Erhardt and Kelsey Carroll; plus one adorable grand niece, baby Taylor Bea Apfelbeck. Ron was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Marie Carroll; and sister-in-law, Beverly Stavn.
The family would like to thank all his doctors and care givers at the VA Hospital and Agrace HospiceCare. Also to our family and friends who were always there for us during this time, thank you.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST CATHOLIC CHURCH, 209 South Street, Waunakee, with Monsignor James Gunn presiding.
