Janesville 12s lose twice at Ohio Valley Regional
Janesville's 12-year-old baseball tournament team lost its first two games of pool play Thursday at the Ohio Valley Regional.
Illinois Valley defeated Janesville 13-6 in the first game, while Shackamack (Ind.) scored a 3-2 walk-off win in local team's second game.
“We had one bad inning game one and that put us behind the eight ball,” Janesville coach Ron Kobs said. “We made a nice run with five runs in the third inning to get back in it, but we came up short.
“In the second game, we played a lot better and had a chance to win the game. It's still only pool play, so we aren't out of it yet.”
Cullen Peterson homered for Janesville in Game 1, while Isaac Stried's solo home run tied the game at 2-2 for Janesville in the sixth inning of Game 2.
Mason MacLennan pitched well for Janesville in Game 2, allowing only two runs and no walks.
Janesville plays Lake Cumberland (Ky.) at 12:30 p.m. today in its final pool play game before the single-elimination tournament begins Saturday.
