Cars Time Forgot car show this weekend at Lake Lawn Resort in Delavan
DELAVAN--Lake Lawn Resort and the Delavan-Delavan Lake Chamber of Commerce are again hosting the Cars Time Forgot car show.
Now in its 12th year, the show brings in classic car fans from all over the stateline area.
Here are five things you'll need to know about the event.
1. The main event: From 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Lake Lawn Resort, 2400 E. Geneva St., Delavan will be transformed into a lakefront car lot featuring hundreds of unusual custom and stock cars, muscles cars, restored cars of all eras and classic trucks and motorcycles.
It's not often you get a lake view at a car show.
2. Special features: This year, the Rock Ford Model A Club members will be making a special point of bringing their cars to the event.
On Saturday, a gimmick rally will provide entertainment for drivers.
The rally is part scavenger hunt, part race and a good excuse to drive around the countryside in a cool car. Participants are given directions they won't be able to find on their GPS units such as “Take the third left after the big oak tree.” The challenge is to find a series of landmarks and complete tasks at each one. The one who finishes the fastest wins a prize.
3. Special guests: Dennis Gage of “My Classic Car” will be on the grounds Sunday filming for an episode of his show.
The show for nearly 20 years has been a testimony to the popularity of the topic and the enthusiasm of its host.
Jay Leno has been a guest on the show more than once, as have other celebrity car collectors.
Gage's shows feature classic Indy cars, hot rods, custom cars, trucks, motorcycles and traditional classics and top sellers from the 60s and 70s.
Capt'n Bob and Arlo of Wisconsin Hot Rod Radio will also be at the event.
4. Other attractions: Starting at 6 p.m. Saturday, Lake Lawn Resort is hosting a barbecue and sneak peek at featured cars. Tickets are $23.
For the more musically inclined, the Georgia Rae Family Band will be performing at 7 p.m. Friday at the Phoenix Park band shell, corner of East Washington and North Second streets, Delavan.
The band was the winner of the WGLR Texaco Country Showdown. It also won the battle of the bands at the 2014 National Old Time Fiddlers Contest and Festival.
Beatolution, the popular Beatles cover band will perform at the bandstand at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Downtown stores will be running sales throughout the weekend.
5. Where to park your ordinary car: Visitors can park at the Lake Lawn airstrip across from the resort for $5. A free shuttle will run from the Brick Street Market, 104 E. Walworth Ave.; Comfort Inn, 13 Bauer Parkway; and Super 8, 518 Borg Road.
Entry into the event is free, but donations of nonperishable food items are being accepted for the local food pantry.
