JANESVILLE--Janesville’s American Legion baseball team better get its act together or it’s going to be a short postseason.

Post 205, which came into the summer with high hopes, continues to struggle.

Wednesday night at Riverside Park, Beloit took advantage of four early Janesville errors to open up a 7-0 lead and coasted to an 11-7 win.

Beloit, which is in the same regional as Janesville when tournament play opens in two weeks, has won all four meetings this season between the teams.

Janesville, which fell to 10-6 overall, banged out 16 hits but could not overcome the early-game jitters.

Beloit leadoff hitter Kevin Raisbeck reached on an error to start the game. A walk, two hits and another Janesville error made it 3-0 before JC Hughes pushed the margin to 4-0 with an RBI groundout. Beloit finished with 15 hits off four Janesville pitchers.

The visitors pushed the lead to 7-0 in the second. Two more Janesville errors put runners on first and second before Cal McClelland and Jared Druding followed with back-to-back RBI doubles. Austin Grover, who was 4-for-4, made it 6-0 with an RBI single, and Hughes’ second RBI in as many innings added another insurance run.

Hunter Van Zandt started for Post 205 and took the loss. The Janesville Parker senior and 2014 player of the year in the Big Eight Conference allowed seven runs on seven hits in 1 1/3 innings. Only two of the seven runs were earned.

Janesville got a run back in the second, but Beloit scored three more in the third to make it 10-1.

Jake Campbell and JT Smithback were the hitting stars for Janesville. Campbell, who will be a Janesville Craig sophomore, was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI.

Smithback, a first-team all-Big Eight selection this past spring and a 2015 Craig graduate, was 3-for-4 with two RBI.

Jared Filter threw three scoreless innings in relief for Janesville, allowing only one hit.

McClellan was 3-for-4 for Beloit with three RBI and three runs scored.

Janesville plays in the Oconomowoc Tournament beginning Friday.
