Sandra Marie Kahl, Janesville, WI (1941 - 2015)
October 6, 1941 - July 3, 2015
Sandra Marie Kahl (Hoiby), long time resident of Janesville, passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, July 3, 2015, at the age of 73. She was born on Oct. 6, 1941, to S. Leander and Ruth (Mikkelson) Hoiby. She graduated from Cambridge High School in May of 1959, and from Madison Business College in August of 1960. Sandy married the love of her life, Larry Kahl of Edgerton, on Aug 5, 1961. They had four children and she was very proud to be the mother of twins and the grandmother of twins. She worked several part-time jobs while raising her children including having her own tax preparation/bookkeeping business and working 18 years for the Prent Corp in Janesville where she met many wonderful friends that she remained close with until her death. However, her favorite "job" was being an active grandma to her nine grandchildren. One of the most memorable highlights of her life was the family vacation in 2006, with all four children, their spouses, and all her grandchildren to the Smokey Mountains in Pigeon Forge, TN. She was in her "grandma" glory! One of her life-long passions was collecting Boyds Bears and Boyds Bear Treasure boxes and she was able to fulfill a dream of visiting Boyds Bear Country in Gettysburg, PA. Most recently, her favorite past-time was heading to Madison and Baraboo for some slot machine fun with family and friends, where she almost always won big.
Sandy is survived by her husband of 53 years, Larry; her children: Ginger (Curt) Meinders of Janesville, Monte (Michelle) Kahl of Janesville, Cindy ("Wally") Heisdorf of Cedarburg, WI, and Wendy Curless of Janesville; her grandchildren: Mitchell Curless, Tyler Meinders, Nicole Curless, Kaitlin Meinders, Morgan Meinders, Ryan Heisdorf, Jordyn Heisdorf, Logan Kahl, and Austin Kahl; her sisters: Linda (Chuck) Swenson of McFarland, WI, Bonnie Prestbroten of Middleton, WI and Diane (Jerry) Wagner of Overland Park, KS; her sister-in-law, Linda Slater of Janesville; her brother-in-law, Keith (Georgina) Kahl of Cambridge, WI; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Richard Hoiby; her mother-in-law, Louise (Larson) Kahl; her father-in-law, Lester Kahl; and her brother-in-law, Ralph Kahl.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2015, at the FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH with Pastor Namoi Garber officiating. A visitation will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2015, at the SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME and again an hour before the service on Thursday at THE CHURCH.
