Dorothy Mae Karlen, age 84, of Janesville, WI, passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2015, at Mercy Hospital in Janesville. She was born on Feb. 13, 1931, in Janesville, the daughter of Royce and Blanche (Johnson) Walmer. She married Walter R. Karlen on Feb. 6, 1949, in Brodhead. He passed away on Oct. 24, 2002. Dorothy attended Albany High School. She and her husband owned and operated 'Dorothy's Bar' in Alma Center, WI. She enjoyed playing cards, being with her lady friends on Friday night, gambling, being with family, and following her grandchildren in sports. In her earlier years, she enjoyed softball and bowling.
Dorothy is survived by her children: Shirley (Bill) Raatz, Steven (Lucy) Karlen, both of Janesville, Randall (Sally) Karlen of Evansville, WI; a sister, Arlene Perkins of Janesville; a brother, Alvin (Phyllis) Walmer of Evansville, WI; a sister-in-law, Helen Welton of Janesville; ten grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and a great great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, July 3, 2015, at ST. PETER'S LUTHERAN CHURCH, Janesville, with Pastor Bruce Gray officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Janesville.
