Ray Fischer tournament tees off Friday at Riverside
The Ray Fischer State Medal Play Championship is one of the top golf tournaments held in Wisconsin.
The 72-hole event, which begins with Friday's opening round at Riverside Golf Course, is a favorite stop for the state's best amateur golfers.
Five former champions are in the 160-man field, including defending champion Jake Wisniewski of Sussex. Other former champions in the field are Matt Behm (2006), Pat Boyle (2000), Bob Gregorski (1998, 1996) and Brent Wong (1986).
Behm leads a list of 11 Janesville entrants. He set the course record at Riverside with a 10-under par 62 in his opening round en route to the 2006 Fischer title.
Wisniewski, who played collegiately at UW-Parkside, won last year's Fischer with a birdie on the first playoff hole. Wisniewski finished with a 278 total, which was 10 shots under par.
The format for the Fischer is 18 holes on Friday and Saturday, with a 36-hole cut made for the top 60 golfers plus ties. Sunday's finale is 36 holes.
