Esther M. Kevern, Janesville, WI (1920-2015)

Esther Kevern, age 95, passed away June 15, 2015, at Huntington Place Assisted Living. She had been a Janesville, WI, resident for the past eight years. Esther was born in Freeport, IL, on Feb. 6, 1920, to the Reverend Chester R. Payne and Ruby (Riefsnyder) Payne. She was a graduate of Freeport High School and North Central College, Naperville, IL, and taught first grade in Grosse Pointe, MI. She married Walter L. Kevern on July 5, 1952, in Freeport, and later moved to Dixon, IL. She was a member of the PEO Sisterhood; volunteered at Heritage Square Retirement Home in Dixon; and was a member of the KSB Hospital Auxiliary in Dixon for over 35 years. During her married life, she was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Dixon, attended St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Dixon, and Trinity Episcopal Church, Janesville, WI.
Esther is survived by her husband, Walter; two sons, the Reverend John R. Kevern of Rochester, NY, and Thomas C. (Lynn) Kevern of Milton, WI; three grandchildren: John (Samantha), Elizabeth (Greg Adamson), and James (Michelle); and one great-grandson, Winston.
A private funeral service for the family will be held in Freeport, IL.
