February 13, 1997 - June 12, 2015

Zachary A Zagelow, 18, of Milton, WI, died June 12th, 2015, at Loyola University Hospital of Chicago, where he had been hospitalized in hopes of receiving a lung transplant. Zach was born Feb. 13, 1997, in Spokane, WA, and underwent his first of several heart surgeries in his first week of life. In November of 1998, Zach received the gift of a life saving heart lung transplant at Stanford University and much of his life centered on regular visits to multiple doctors and hospitals in the care of that Gift. In the year following his transplant, Zach was named the Children’s Miracle Network representative for Washington State and visited the White House and Disney World in that role. Zach attended Edgerton High school, where he recently completed his junior year. Zach participated in forensics and was a member of the Edgerton Choir. Zach took great pride in his choir activities including the Pops concert, Chamber Singers and the Band of Pride during the Memorial Day Parade in New York City. Zach had aspirations of attending the University of Wisconsin Whitewater to pursue a career in elementary education. A lover of history, Zach volunteered at the Hoard Museum of Fort Atkinson, WI, and the Rock County Historical Society of Janesville, WI. Zach also had a great love for trains and was an avid Thomas the Train collector. After receiving the “Arrow of Light” award as a Cub Scout, Zach was, then, a long time member of Boy Scout Troup #422 in Edgerton. Zach received his driver’s license and earned and purchased his own car through lawn care, special needs child care and seasonal work at Shopko. Zach took great pride in the Mexican heritage of his Mother’s family and was a life long fan of the Washington State Cougars, the Seattle Sea Hawks and of anything from his birth state of Washington.

Zach is survived by his mother, Gina Zagelow; father, Mike Zagelow; step mother, Laura Colyer Zagelow; brother, Cole Zagelow; and step siblings: Libby, Lexie and Benji Halma, all of Milton, WI. He also leaves his maternal grandparents, Lucas and Helen Ozuna of Yakima, WA; and his paternal grandparents, Larry and June Zagelow of Odessa, WA. Zach is also survived by close friends, Katie Wilkinson of Edgerton, WI, and Hanna Stella of Spokane, WA; and several aunts, uncles and cousins in Washington State.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2015, at ST JOSEPH CATHOLIC CHURCH, Edgerton, with Father David Timmerman officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
