Sunday Interstate crash in Janesville kills one

JANESVILLE—An Illinois man is dead and a South Dakota man injured after a two-vehicle crash Sunday morning on Interstate 90/39, between the Janesville Highway 14 and 11 exits, according to a Wisconsin Department of Transportation/Wisconsin State Patrol Southwest Region DeForest Post news release.

According to the release, 34-year-old Terry G. Sportsman, died at the crash scene after the pickup truck he was driving was hit by a semitrailer truck, driven by David V. Juneau, 65, of South Dakota.

Juneau was driving north when his semi traveled into the median, crossed into the southbound lane of the Interstate and hit the truck. After impact, both vehicles landed in the ditch.

Juneau was taken to St. Mary's Janesville Hospital, where he was treated and released, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

No citations have yet been issued but may be pending in conjunction with an ongoing investigation, according to the release.

Janesville police and fire department personnel plus Rock County Sheriff's Office deputies and Rock County Highway Department crews responded to the scene that shut down one lane of southbound Interstate traffic for four hours and backed up traffic for 3 miles.
