Lake Geneva Badger ninth after first round of state golf
Division 2 Lodi stole the show on the first day of the WIAA state boys golf tournament at University Ridge.
The Blue Devils fired a 297 on Monday, the top score by any school regardless of division, and will carry a 23-shot lead into the second day of play today.
In Division 1, Arrowhead leads the field by three after an opening-round 306. That score was highlighted by Alex Yost’s albatross on the par-5 second hole. Green Bay Notre Dame is second, and Middleton is third, 14 strokes back of Arrowhead, which won Janesville Parker’s Ashenfelter Invitational at Riverside Golf Course earlier this year.
Lake Geneva Badger is ninth in the team race but is just four shots back of Middleton in the tight D1 field. The Badgers got a 1-over 73 from Jonathan Duggan on the first day. He’s two shots back of the three-way tie atop the individual leaderboard.
St. Mary’s Springs leads the D3 field by 10 strokes.
Play is scheduled to resume with the final round beginning this morning for D2 and D3 golfers and this afternoon for Division 1.
