Regional soccer: Evansville strikes twice quickly to win on road
Evansville struck twice in a matter of minutes to win a girls soccer regional road game Thrusday night.
The fifth-seeded Blue Devils got a goal from Sarah Deininger at 56 minutes and Abby Meehan just before the clock struck 60, and they went on to beat No. 4-seeded Big Foot/Williams Bay 2-0.
“We just wanted it,” Evansvile coach Kendall Buttchen said. “I have a group of 12 seniors on the team, and they didn’t want this one to be their last game.”
Evansville will take on top-seeded Belleville/New Glarus in a regional final road game at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Big Foot/Williams Bay won both of the regular-season meetings against Evansville.
The teams were scoreless through the first half, but the Blue Devils’ defense rushed forward to put the team on the board. Deininger scored off a pass from Emmeline Ross.
Meehan finished off a cross from Sydney Decker minutes later to stun the ChiefDogs.
“The first one was a great shot,” Buttchen said. “Then we got a great cross and finish, and it was just right back to back.”
