JANESVILLE—Reconstruction of County G north of Beloit will begin Tuesday as the state does preliminary work to prepare for the expansion of Interstate 90/39.

The project will close about six miles of County G—also known as Prairie Avenue—from Huebbe Parkway to Highway 11 West, according to a news release from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.

County G will be open only for local traffic and businesses.

When completed in fall, the road will serve as an alternate route for congestion and incident management during and after Interstate 90/39 expansion, according to the news release.

Crews also will construct a new road, County BT, as part of the Inman Parkway extension, the release states. County BT will connect Inman Parkway to County S, or Shopiere Road, and also will serve as an Interstate 90/39 alternate route.

In July, an existing bridge north of Sunny Lane near Blackhawk Technical College will be replaced, according to the news release.

Access to businesses, homes and BTC on County G will be open, but through traffic will be detoured using Highway 11 to Highway 51 to Cranston Road.

Traffic flow on County G will be interrupted periodically during the bridge replacement project, the release states.

The $17.5 million County G project is expected to be completed in November. The $4.1 million County BT construction will extend into summer 2016, according to the release.
